How to Play Checkers?
Checker is played between two players with age 6 and up.Before you begin:
In Checkers each player chooses a set of colored checkers and places them on the black squares on the side of the game board closest to him. They player with the black checkers starts the game.
Playing the game:
Moves are only allowed on the black squares, so pieces move diagonally. Single pieces are always limited to forward moves (toward the opponent).
Player can only move one square each turn, unless he is "capturing".
Capturing an opponents' piece in Checkers:
To capture an opponent's piece you must jump over it, landing in a straigth diagonal line on the other side. Only one piece can be captures in a single jump. However, multiple jumps are allowed in a single turn. When a piece is capture, it is removed from the board.
If a player is able to make a capture, there is no option - the jump must be made. If more than one capture is avaliable, the player is free to choose whichever he or she prefers.
When a piece reaches the other side of the game board, the furthest rows from the player who controls the piece, it is corwned and becomes king. In checkers on of the captures pieces is placed on top of the king so that it is twice as high as single piece.
Kings can also only move diagonally, but they may move in 2 directions, both forward and backward.
Checkers kings can combine jumps in several directions. (Forward and backward on the same turn).
Winning the Checker games:
A player wins the game when the oppoenent cannot make a move. In most cases, this is because all of the opponent's pieces have been captured, but it could also be because all of the his pieces are blocked. There are many stratagies that can be used to be pro at checkers. I will soon be writting about those strategies.
If you feel this article was helpful. I would really appreciate a share. Thank you.
